What is the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant?

The Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant is a grant available to homeowners that are undertaking work on a vacant house or building to use it as a permanent home or a rental property.

The property must have been built before 2008 and it must be vacant for 2 years or more. Following completion of work the property must be your principal private residence or it must be available for rent and registered with the RTB. How Much Can You Receive?

You can receive a grant of up to €50,000 to renovate a vacant property and up to €70,000 if the property is derelict. If the property is located on an island further grant funding is available. Homeowners who are eligible for Vacant Property Refurbishments Grant can apply for support through SEAI home energy grant schemes. It’s important to remember when planning your refurbishment project, that any home energy upgrade can only be funded under one of the schemes.

Moving forward with SEAI Home Energy Grant Scheme

Step 1: Review the above information and decide which SEAI scheme would be most appropriate for your project. If you are intending to apply under the One Stop Shop Scheme, contact a SEAI registered One Stop Shop Provider or Community Grant Programme through a Project coordinator prior to undertaking any work.

Step 2: If you are applying under the One Stop Shop Scheme or Community Grant Scheme you may be asked to undertake a Technical Assessment/ Home Energy Assessment. This will provide you with a road map on how to achieve the required rating of B2 or above and 100Kw uplift on completion.
